My Adversity Quotient/Response Profile

Having taken the short version of the Adversity Response Profile assessment, I gathered a result of 169. This seems to be a high number.

Paul G. Stoltz, designed a model personality or character profile that ultimately and directly impacts the quality of our lives. This is the Adversity Quotient - our ability to deal with adversity.

Given that it is the very nature of existence to experience adversity - the first adverse situation in any given life being the ejection from the relative safety and comfort of the womb into the unsterilized and life-threatining world outside it, it is worth studying how we as individuals respond to adversity. This profile I think explains how I got to my present circumstances and gives insight to how I feel about my past experience as well as my present circumstances.

My score, 169 tells me that I have the ability to withstand significant adversity and continue to move forward and upward in life. Well! This may be due in part that I somehow maintain the theory that I am one of Fortune's Favorites, and that a great destiny is my birthright.

This is the profile of the Climber (the other two being that of the Quitter and the Camper). The Climbers feel a deep sense of purpose and passion for what they do. They know how to experience joy, recognizing it as a gift and reward for the climb.

The metaphor for the profiles is a climb on Mt. Everest, success or a high quotient being the ability to reach the peak.

Climbers know that many of the rewards come in the form of long-term benefits, and that small steps now can lead to sizable advances further up the mountain. Similarly, they possess a strong sense of faith in something bigger than themselves.

Climbers are persistent, tenacious, and resilient (yeah baby!). They have the maturity and wisdom to understand that sometimes one needs to go backwards in order to move forward. Setbacks are a natural part of the ascent and as a result, they brave life's hardships with authentic courage and discipline.

This is not to say that they don't get weary, doubt, feel lonely or bruised; only that they have the inner resources to rejuvenate and renew themselves and resume the ascent.

Well, well. I really feel good about being me right now.
