The world shrinks yet again
In preparation for our wedding, Alecon and I have been calling on our Principal Sponsors - for them to get to know us, as we become their Godchildren, and for us to know them - as they are for the most part constructs in our imagination anchored by the knowledge that they are significant friends and relations of our parents.
Last Sunday afternoon we called on the Matics, MrApolonio and Crisanta who are good friends of my mother in law (MIL). On the way to their home my MIL shared that the Matics spent time in Djakarta, Indonesia. When we went through their doorstep I had noticed two wooden chairs that my best friend Tristan had in his room. I had also remembered a conversation between him and Ming (another good friend) wherein they mentioned that all of their friends (Filipino families who had lived in Djakarta) had those chairs.
We had a brisk and lively conversation with the Matics, and after a time their daughter Joyce joined us. She looked over the wedding invitation and remarked "Tristan Jovellana?" To which I responded, yes he's my best friend and our best man.
I should have figured it out earlier, these people would all know each other from their stay in Djakarta where the Filipino community was quite close-knit. Sure enough, Joyce knew Ming and the Matics were good friends with the Ovendens.
Since I had gone to La Salle, I also knew of Chad - another of their common friends. Joyce even knew of Francis Miranda, due to her going to UA&P where Francis teaches; and Mr. Matic knew him or of him due to Jimenez Basic (the ad firm where Francis works) serves United Laboratories, Inc. where Mr. Matic is an executive.
Well, at least now they know that Ming is featured in this Month's Metro Magazine ("Iron Ladies with a Soft Touch") out now.
And more and more I feel that my world and Alecon's world is coming together - just in time for the wedding.
