Guitar Porn

As I've mentioned in a previous post, I've gotten back into playing music; specifically guitar playing. At present I feel it will take about a full year before my playing is actually listenable. Moreover, I haven't begun shopping for my own equipment. I'll be sure to blog about that exciting, um, quest if I may.

I won't have a lot of money to go around, and right now I don't know where to shop for guitars and related instruments here in the Philippines. I work at a place where there's a nearby showroom for Godin, Washburn, and Seagull guitars, but I don't know enough about these brands for me to make an intelligent purchase.

The most accessible store (found in shopping malls) is the still-standing JB Music and Sports store, who retails Fernandez, Hamer, and Paul Reed Smith guitars. I'm interested in a Paul Reed Smith, mostly because Koyuki from Beck (manga) wanted one for himself (he couldn't afford one). The PRS models I've seen (on sale) are pretty reasonable (I'm not sure what are reasonable prices for branded guitars these days), so I want to check one out one of these days. I would like their 513 Rosewood model, even though the Santana models must be pretty good. See it here.

But I've also heard from a musician acquaintance of mine that there are great bargains to be had in the used equipment scene. There are many amateur and/or underground musicians here in the Philippines so I would like to get into this - for a budget for the PRS, I may get maybe more than one guitar and perhaps even an amplifier and/or related equipment.

Eventually, I would want my own Les Paul Custom guitar. It's my dream instrument, just like Ryusuke's in Beck.

For an amp, I want a Marshall, no matter how small. That belongs to another post though. I named this post guitar porn because it's going to contain media that those truly besotten with guitar lust would salivate over.
