Say what you will, I do pay my taxes DAMMIT!

On the way to the Barangay Office this morning to get my cedula (Community Tax Certificate), I was having an intense conversation with myself as to how much I would pay for it. Ever since I've been an adult, I've always declared myself unemployed and only paid Php 5.00 for the CTC. Technically it was true because for a long time I've been working short-term contracts and project-based assignments that was difficult (for me) to account for.

But for the first time, I actually spent a full year making a decent salary and I would be out of integrity if I declared myself unemployed (to avoid paying the percentage tax). The CTC number is required in completing my annual tax return. God forbid I screw up that document now that all that tax money has already been withheld from my salary.

So I paid the percentage of my gross earnings for my community tax. I really should, since I really really love living in that community. While in the Barangay Office I was also able to claim my voter's ID. Neat.

I know that there are a whole lot of people who hustle their community tax by declaring themselves unemployed. You SUCK!
